The Village of Howard is hosting a Citizens Academy to provide residents an inside look at how each department of our village functions. The program is an excellent opportunity for community members to learn more about their local government.
The Village of Howard Citizens Academy was formed to help our community members learn about and experience Village of Howard government and departmental operations firsthand. This program provides an excellent opportunity for our officials to more closely interact with community members, sharing village history, current practices and vision for future growth. Our goals include delivering practical experiences for participants in a safe learning and sharing environment, building positive relationships, and further improving communication between our local government officials and community members.
This exciting opportunity is relevant for all members of our community, whether residents or business owners. All are invited!
The academy is designed for Howard residents and business owners who are interested in learning about our community and its local government. Participants will also learn about potential involvement opportunities, including leadership roles and volunteerism.
Citizens Academy includes five learning sessions that will take place for two hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings. Sessions will consist of speakers, facility tours, and opportunities for experiential learning. The academy concludes with a recognition of completion during a regularly scheduled Village Board meeting.
A maximum of 15 participants, including one student in grades 9-12, will be chosen through an application and selection process.
