Village implements new rules for Duck Creek Quarry

Due to numerous complaints of litter and reckless behavior, the Howard Village Board passed an ordinance enacting new guidelines at the Duck Creek Quarry recreational area.

Ordinance 2017-11 requires the following:

  • Access to the quarry is limited to the designated area along Glendale Avenue.
  • Swimming is permitted in the designated area along Glendale Avenue. Diving or jumping into the quarry is prohibited.
  • Boating is limited to non-motorized, carry-in boats only.
  • All occupants in any boat must wear personal flotation devices (life jackets).
  • Fishing is catch-and-release only. Spears, crossbows and nets are prohibited. No more than one fishing line per person is allowed.
  • Possession of alcohol is prohibited at the quarry.
  • Tampering with lifesaving equipment is prohibited.

Failure to abide by the rules will lead to citations, including those for littering, which is prohibited by state law. Please help keep the Duck Creek Quarry a clean, safe, and enjoyable recreational area for everyone!
